Gaokao 2020

In every country, any student who seeks to advance for higher education has to pass a qualification examination. In China, this exam is called "Gaokao".

On July 7th 2020, China starts the annual Gaokao, the biggest issue for millions of Chinese families. Over 400,000 examination rooms welcomed almost 11 million high school seniors, which marks the holding of "the largest organized mass gathering" in China since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The documentary series is directed by four internationally well-known directors, who have visited Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Ordos to depict the lives of participants in the Gaokao from different sectors, offering a vivid portrait of the Gaokao experiences of ordinary Chinese during the pandemic and an accurate record of the historical moments throughout the "unusual" Gaokao in 2020.
